Muhammad had a revelation given from Allah to say in Quran 46:9 “Say, I am not singular among the Apostles; neither do I know what will be done with me or with you hereafter: I follow no other than what is revealed unto me; neither am I any more than a public warner.”
Meaning even he Muhammad, the best of all Muslims doesn’t know whether he is going to Islamic heaven or not , he does not know what Allah will do with him.
Historically, according to islamic history, in Islams jurisprudence with the Hadith, this was Confirmed. Sahih Al-Bukhari 7003
Narrated by Umm al-‘Ala’
“The Ansar drew lots concerning which of the emigrants (Muhajirun) should dwell with which of the Ansar. ‘Uthman bin Maz’un was allotted to dwell with us (i.e., in Umm al-‘Ala’s family). He fell ill and we nursed him till he died. We shrouded him in his clothes, and Allah’s Messenger ﷺ came to us.
I (Umm al-‘Ala’) said [addressing the dead body], “O Abu As-Sa’ib! May Allah’s Mercy be on you! I bear witness that Allah has honored you.”
The Prophet ﷺ said, (to the woman) “How do you know that Allah has honored him?”
I replied (the woman), “I do not know. May my father and my mother be sacrificed for you, O Allah’s Messenger! But who else is worthy of it (if not ‘Uthman)?”
(She is saying if not ‘Uthman be worthy of Heaven than who is?)
He said, “As to him, by Allah, death has overtaken him, and I hope the best for him. By Allah, though I am the Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me.”
Umm al-‘Ala’ added: “By Allah, I will never assert the piety/righteousness of anybody after that.”
She further said: “That made me sad, and when I slept I saw in a dream a flowing stream for ‘Uthman bin Maz’un. I went to Allah’s Apostle and told him of it. He remarked, ‘That symbolizes his (good) deeds.’”
Muhammad, who is the pillar to be emulated in Islam doesn’t even know if he will go to heaven. So how Muslims know their assured place in Islamic heaven? Jihad. Quran 9:111 “Verily God hath purchased of the true believers their souls, and their substance, promising them the enjoyment of paradise; on condition that they fight for the cause of God: Whether they slay or be slain, the promise for the same is assuredly due by the law, and the gospel, and the Koran. And who performeth his contract more faithfully than God? Rejoice therefore in the contract which ye have made. This shall be great happiness.”.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2785, narrated by Abu Huraira):
Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and said, “Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward).” He replied, “I do not find such a deed.” Then he added, “Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast?” The man said, “But who can do that?” Abu Huraira added, “The Mujahid’s horse gets reward for the steps it takes in Allah’s Cause.”.
